Are We Too Young For a Couples Counseling?

If you're wondering if you're too young to seek help to improve your relationship, you're not alone. Many dating or engaged couples wonder the same thing. The truth is, any couple (young or not) that faces little divergences or big problems can seek counseling if they want to save or better their relationship. If you're thinking about seeing a therapist, is not a sign that your relationship is failing, rather, is a sign of your commitment to make it succeed.


The reasons why a dating or an engaged couple seek counseling could be the same as the married ones: communication issues, infidelity, lack of empathy and understanding, past traumas, etc. Having an unfamiliar person listening to your problems can be challenging, but a therapist can assist you in countless ways!


Make you see things from another perspective


A therapist can give you insights that can make you see things from a third point of view, which can raise questions you've never thought before. When you're not married, it could help you realize if you're really compatible with your partner or not. Having a neutral and professional opinion can help you make wiser decisions.


Help you fix old patterns


At the dating/engaged stage of your rapport, you and/or your partner may be having the same unhealthy behavior from past relationships, which could bring some tension between you. Having an expert to guide you through this not only benefits your relationship with your partner, but also, with yourself. By being a better person, the quality of your relationships can improve.


Assist you on communication


It may sound like a cliche, but knowing how to communicate with your partner is the foundation that makes everything else work. If this foundation is not strong enough, the chances of the whole building coming down are high. Having a heated discussion is not always the problem, knowing how to discuss is the key. A therapist can assist you on the best way to talk about your problems and better express your feelings.
