4 Signs To Seek Depression Counseling
May 18, 2017
Depression
is a very misunderstood illness. Often many people think that having
depression just means feeling very sad due to highly
stressful situations going on
in one's life. They do not see it as an actual illness. As a result,
there are many who do not know when they truly need to seek help.
So how do you know when it is time to seek depression counseling?
Here are 4 signs to look for in yourself and others.
1. You feel a loss of interest in things you used to enjoy.
Making
crafts, knitting, hanging out with friends, playing games, playing with
your dog, etc., all seem like a chore. Nothing seems fun. Nothing
sounds appealing
except for hiding under the covers in your bed.
2. You feel like you will never be happy again.
This
comes in different forms. It can feel like a pit in the stomach. It can
be like the feeling some people get with clouds that will not go away
on a rainy day.
It doesn't seem to matter what anyone says to try to encourage you.
A feeling of hopelessness still overwhelms you.
3. You are experiencing unexplained physical problems.
Sleep
is a big factor to consider. You could either be getting too little or
getting too much. Then, no matter how much sleep you are getting, you
still feel fatigued
with very little energy. You can barely function through even the simple
task of brushing your teeth or taking a shower.
Your
appetite can also change, either leading to rapid weight loss or rapid
weight gain. You either lose your appetite due to loss of interest, or
you find comfort
in your food and eat it in excess.
4. Thoughts of no longer living come to your mind.
This
is a very serious sign. It does not include just plans of ending your
life. It includes any thought of death crossing your mind. Whether you
think about how
you wish you would die or how you want to harm yourself, you need
to immediately seek help.
Depression is
not something to ignore. If you notice any of these signs or
anything else that you think could be related, please contact
