PTSD therapy can Change your Life

Many people suffer from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and are not even aware of it. Any bad experience can cause negative emotions or unwanted remembrances. The most commonly talked about type of PTSD stems from Military Combat. However, an experience of sexual assault, abuse or natural disaster can also cause PTSD. In fact, you may have had a near death experience or witnessed an accident and have emotional trauma even if you were never physically harmed. Signs you may benefit from some therapy include:

-Replaying bad memories

-Shaking, sweating, difficulty breathing

-Nightmares, recurring dreams, trouble sleeping

-Avoiding situations or people who may trigger memories

If you have these symptoms or know someone who has them, whatever the original cause, therapy can help. In therapy we will focus on teaching good coping skills and making memories into nothing more than memories. The idea is to concentrate on where your fears are coming from and rewire how you think about them. You do not have to live in fear of the past and you deserve to sleep well through every night. PTSD symptoms often persist for a long time if treatment is not received. There are many different approaches to assisting those with PTSD from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy to medications. Many methods, in combination with each other, have proven successful in increasing the mental wellness of patients. Therapists will often listen and learn for a while to understand the unique situation and set of needs of each individual, then tailor a treatment to the case.
