Body Image Induced Anxiety

From the age of adolescents, body image is thrown into the faces of young girls. At a young age, girls are striving to look like the airbrushed models showcased on billboards and in magazines. Because of body image induced anxiety, it is imperative to teach girls that all bodies are different, and the ones showcased are usually altered. All bodies are different and that's okay.

Talk to Your Children

It is necessary that parents talk to their children about body image and the changes they may be going through. This is important in both girls and boys. Setting guidelines on how they should look at themselves and others will instill respect. When a child learns to respect themselves and their peers, it will limit the chances of bullying.

Body Image and Bullying

Schools are a pool of comparisons and judgments. One of the main reasons a child gets bullied is due to the way they look or act. Creating confidence in your child and their body will help them shine above bullying from others. Although some children may rise above, bullying is hurtful and degrading. When a child is singled out by peers it can cause deep emotional issues. Teaming up with teachers and school staff can be helpful but bringing them to a counselor may be necessary. Providing a safe place for your child to discuss what is happening, without being judged, will be critical in allowing them to move forward. Bullying is never okay and needs to be handled immediately.


Body Image and Women

Body image induced anxiety can be a big issue for any woman also. It's important that we learn to love and accept ourselves. Sometimes body image anxiety from childhood can become a problem later in life as well.
